The beauty of hunting Colorado comes with the ability to hunt the mountains and the plains, also where the deer and the antelope play, and never get off the ranch. This is the perfect habitat from grassy plains, with spotty cactus, sage brush, Pinyon pine flowing upward into the more traditional heavy forest. This mix of habitat is extremely suitable for Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope and even Turkey.
A good mixture of feed and cover is enhanced by multiple creeks on the property. The outfitter even has some preset blinds and tree stands if you would rather sit than walk. Hunting and knowing the 2000 plus acres have given him insight on where to find each animal during any season. There are deer, elk and antelope on the property year round and other that are migrants and those running in and out of one of the large ranches or the other. You will do all of your hunting in GMU085, and area well known for its deer and elk populations.
The 5 day hunts are priced separately from the 5 days meals and lodging.
The Elk 5 day guided hunt is $4000 discounted down to only $1995, be it deer or elk. The meals and lodging are served right at the ranch with a separate house for lodging. The area is somewhat remote so lodging is about 30 minutes away from the closest hunting area. Lodging runs about $60 per night per person. Most Bull licenses are either sex licenses if drawn, 2nd and 3rd is over the count, unlimited like other areas. This is a nice option to have when booking after the draw application dates. Archery is over the counter and the property starts at 7,200-9,000 feet in elevation and provides good bugling 2,3 and the 4th week in September for 5 day hunts with additional days available on a per day basis depending on scheduling.
The Trophy Antelope hunts are only 3 days Semi-guided $ 995 for bucks and 2 days semi-guided $ 495 for does. The same is true for spring Turkey which is enough time for both. If you do want or need another day it is only $ 100 for the hunt and another $ 75 per day lodging if needed. The $995 is for a buck under 75” guide green score. Over 75” a $ 495 pack out fee will be added no matter how easy or difficult it is to get the antelope out. The license is draw only except for archery and one of the units is over the counter archery antelope.
Ad breakfast, sack lunch and dinner and not to mention gasoline and extra early morning wake ups you are looking at about $120 per day. If you stay at the ranch you have lodging right where the hunt begins every day and ends every night. You can work late skinning your hanging animals or taking turns telling the story over and over about the fatal shot. Meals and lodging at the ranch is only $ 75 per day, a full $50 cheaper and you save a whole lot of gas and miles on your vehicle. The meals and lodging package at the ranch is only $ 375 for the hunt.
Elk is the main target for this ranch. The option to hunt a second animal as a combo deer during the same 5 days is an additional $1000 with a license in your pocket. The amount is the same weather you fill your licenses(s) or not.
The Turkey hunt is $600 guided reduced down to only $295, and no lodging or meals are available with turkey hunts. This area is well known for its premier much south after Merriam’s Turkey hunting and large population. The Merriam’s sub-species is the 4th most difficult to quire for a grand slam being pushed back by the Gould turkey which is only available in Sonora Mexico.
The Black Bear Hunt is $1995, guided and hunting in September with a rifle. In Colorado we are not allowed to use bait or dogs for bear hunting. We have dark timber locations on the ranch that have a high bear density. This hunt is following bear paths and elk trails through the dark timber and other areas. For example the best season is in September when they are gorging themselves for their winter hibernation by feeding about 20 hours per day. The archery season is open so a gut pile is a great opportunity. A water source in the oaks with acorns is also a great area to hunt. If there is food they will come, if there isn’t then we know where they stay and will go to them. This is a 5 day hunt anytime in September. The exact date will be worked out with the outfitter to hunt during the prime time, acorns, gut piles and so on.
We only take a minimum number of hunters to keep the quality of the animals where it is. The ranch is 2000 plus acres sandwiched between two large ranches which when the hunting begins on those ranches elk and deer are pressured into us from both directions. The GMU085 is about 75% private with the bulk of the public land being the highly monitored and controlled. With the property you will be hunting being private our success rate is very high for hunters that can shoot well.
Main target elk but deer license are available if you put in for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Draw at the first of April. Book your hunt first to get the complete hunt code so that when you draw you will have a place to hunt. You will be hunting at about 7000-8000 feet in elevating in a semi-mountainous are by Colorado standards.
Be certain to sight you rifle in to be dead on at 200 yards.
    The schedule is as such:
