Tragic story. I hope everyone stays safe this season. Be extra careful climbing in and out of your tree stands.

In reply to: Rich posted an update The first time in a long time I wasn\'t able to make the NY opening day. We had hunters in Join us in Texas and they had success. Taking a week off and heading back with a father and son to hopefully get his first deer. Good luck to all heading out this week. View

Thanks Brian. I enjoy taking new hunters on their first deer hunt and I’m pretty confident we can get him on a decent buck. I’ll update all after we get back.

Heading to Texas next week to host four wounded warriors from Brook Army Hospital in San Antonio for a dove hunt. Several neighbors heard my brother and I were hosting more soldiers and have offered their help as well. These men and women of our armed forces are the true modern day heroes! As we all reflect today on the terror inflicted upon us in…[Read more]

In reply to: Rich posted an update Glad you worked out the issue. I spent yesterday morning in Walton,NY trying to call a turkey or two..no luck. I had two new hunters with me that truly enjoyed the whole experience. We did see a hen and a woodcock, heard a tom gobbling as well as grouse drumming in the woods. No tagged turkeys but a great day out! View

We don’t get a lot of grouse here but the are fun to hunt…tough shooting. The best place I have been to hunt them was Canada (New Brunswick)

Not much going on this time of year but some of the bucks at the ranch are starting to shed their antlers. A friend called today and he found a set of sheds from a 2yo buck that scores 194”….can’t wait to see what he looks like in two or three years.

In reply to: Rich posted an update Well the Texas rut has claimed its first casualty. My brother found one of our three year old bucks today dead from a fight that he obviously lost. I know the buck well, he will score upper 140\". I know that when you manage a deer herd this happens and it has happened to us in the past....but it still stings! View

Yes it does. The biologist that works with me always says….be prepared for this it is part of managing a deer herd. Thanks. I went out Sunday morning for ducks…they are still flying after we scared them with a few shots.

Thanks…I hope so too. We are filling the high protein feeders in the am with the hope they spend more time eating than chasing the ladies and fighting.

Got back to NY last night from our trip back to Texas. We had a great hunt on Saturday evening, all three of the bucks we wanted along with three mature does hit the dirt. Nice to be able to donate the meat to the local food bank in Cross Plains,TX.

In reply to: Rich posted an update Heading back to Texas on Friday. Hopefully we will cross paths with the three bucks we are looking for. Plan in taking some does as well to keep ratio close. I will update when I get back. View

Thank you. I will let everyone know how we make out when I get back. Weather supposed to be pretty good…lows in the upper 20’s to 50. Hopefully the bucks are on their feet. Second rut finishing up and food sources will be key…food plots and feeders.
